Mom note: I asked Jordan to relate to me why he likes reading scriptures now, this is his answer:
I like reading the scriptures now because I realize that they're actually stories of real people. It's not just a bunch of stuff telling us what to do and not to do but they're just stories we can learn from. I really really really really like reading the story of Adam and Eve and the creation and stuff. But in the Book of Mormon I like the story of Samuel the Lamanite. He's such a stud. My favorite scripture... hmm. I have a few so they're 2 Nephi 31:21, John 14:17 (or something like that, don't remember the actual reference. something about peace I give unto you) and the scripture about Moroni shaking the gates of hell or something So what I study now is the life of Jesus. I'm reading that ancient looking book called Jesus the Christ. It's pretty good and tells stuff that I never even thought of or even knew. Like Joseph and Mary being cousins?? WHAT? yeah... pretty cool. I like it better now because I see that there is a reason to it. Before I was just read scriptures because I was told to. But now I read the scriptures because it's interesting if I'm following the stories that it tells. Oh man... Everything we teach comes from the scriptures. So knowing the scriptures helps out a ton when teaching. Even if I don't use exact references in most of my lessons I know the evidence behind what I'm teaching so I can bring the Spirit in for the person to feel. If that makes sense.... So the advice I would have to give the Young Men now for reading the scriptures would be to take it one story at a time. Have someone tell you the chapter of a certain story that they are familiar with. Start there so like, for the stripling warriors would be like Alma 57? Not sure. You'll have to look that up haha. And then they can start like that. And going to mission prep class.... I regret not going. I have a hard time teaching because I'm out of practice. Mission prep class teaches you how to teach I guess?
This week has been crazy for sure. Monday was fun! Can't remember what I did but I'm sure it was a blast! Tuesday same thing. I've been too caught up trying to figure out how to make Elder Coleman stay on his mission. Saturday was sad for me. There's this family that I've been super attached too. They're just like Stacey and Dave Mortensen. They've decided to go separate ways and eventually will get a divorce after 14 years of marriage. It surprised me so much because they all seem so happy. Levi, the dad, told me that it will be the most unique divorce I will ever see. They don't hate each other they don't fight... things just don't work out. So that was the biggest event that happened last week. Heartbreaking but oh well. Things happen right? I found out that I will be transferred to some area called like Saymonds Pond? Idk. Different zone different side of the mission. Hopefully it will be as good as Cherry Creek was. This area has been fun and I hate to leave the people.
